Creative Card Making Greetings to you on World Card Making Day!

What a thrill it is to be part of Operation Write Home's Blog Hop today, I enjoyed the Memorial Day Blog Hop and didn't want to miss this one.

I've always liked the look of a cheery red front door at holiday time, so I created a card with just that look.

I enjoyed making this gift tag using the Interior Design CST Grand Entrance Wood Mounted stamp. I've always enjoyed this stamp and was glad to work it into my winter/holiday card making blog here.

Of course there was some assembly required. Thinking a sketch wouldn't really be that helpful in this case, so I took a couple pics during the process. Hoping you don't mind seeing my messy work surface in the next couple pics. I stamped the door image twice onto white cardstock and once onto red.

After cutting out the red door, and the white area surrounding the door, I was ready to assemble.


Here is my dimensional holiday door.



I embellished the door with a Jesse James Dress It Up Holiday Collection mini cookie cutter and Glossy Accents. I think it looks pretty Christmassy.

The Shutter Box

Greetings Fellow Paper Crafting Enthusiansts!

Today I bring to you my Shutter Box project. Hand crafted, of course as usual, but this time from mainly book board, cardstock and a couple of wooden dowels.  So, do you want to see what's inside the box?

The inside holds pictures and rubber stamped quotes on five inserted pages that are attached to rotating wooden dowels.

If you are interested, here is a bit about how I assembled the shutter box. First I had to cut out my box, doors, lid and base from book board.

Then after attaching the book board to make the inside box, I wrapped it with a text weight black paper and punched holes for the wooden dowels.

I decorated my inside pages before installing them into the box frame.

Then continued to add pages.

I prepared the doors complete with a paper wrap to hold the wooden dowel that serves as a hinge.

After inserting the front doors into the holes I punched into the base, it was ready for the lid or top, the thing that basically holds the front doors in place once it's attached.

Well, after all those pictures, you get the idea of the process. We liked it so much at Club Scrap that we decided to make it the September Serenity Club Stamp Project. Making this into a kit with instructions makes the project so much easier since all the book board and paper are already cut to size. That is precisely the reason I made another! Here is the project the kit makes with the Serenity papers included (however the kit is also available without paper, so you can just use your own favorite papers).

Altered Wooden Tray

Creative Greetings to you! Today I'm posting my wooden serving tray turned shadow box. It started as a bare wood 6"x6" mini tray and looks so different now.

These wooden trays are available in craft stores and even at Oriental Trading by the dozen, so they are an inexpensive option for turning into a cute little keepsake.

I started by painting my bare wood tray with black acrylic paint, then when it was dry, I used sand paper to remove some of the paint on the tray edges for a more distressed look.

 Then I simply rubber stamped words into the bottom of the tray with Club Scrap's White Pigment Ink, and then added more elements from my stash as I went along.

Club Scrap's Just Dandy Stickers made a nice addition, as well as the black and white Vogue Stickers shown below.

 

Along with the photo, cutaparts, stickers, colored Style Stone (Clearsnap), typewriter alpha bead/charms, and feather butterfly - the tray shadow box shaped up.

Thinking this tray really serves up its contents well, now this shadowbox sits on the top of my desk hutch for all to enjoy.

Still Love To Play With Blocks

As adults, isn't it strange how some of us end up reverting back to things we played with as children? Here is a perfect example of just that. My altered 1.5" wooden blocks.

Once I got started, it was difficult to stop.

The bare wooden blocks are available at most craft stores, around here I hit Hobby Lobby quite often.  The wooden blocks can be wood stained and rubber stamped on easily. I'm using the Science Wood Mounted Stamp Set here from Club Scrap (along with many other Club Scrap stamps) for some fun decor on one of the blocks.

Once I had the wooden blocks stained and stamped on, I was ready for adding more stuff.

The wooden blocks were fun to work with since embellishments could be nailed onto the blocks.

Of course any doodad can be used for embellishing, glued on or nailed on.

Or just kept free of embellishments for rubber stamping only.

Just a little stack of three decorated blocks is so cute.

However, a larger stack is fun too! Everyone likes to stack blocks, right?

Well it's been tons'o'fun playing with blocks again.

I haven't been able to get a Kay's Keepsakes Blog entered recently because we've all been so busy at Club Scrap getting ready for our annual retreats. The first this year was earlier this month and the next is still coming up in October, so much fun and inspiration all in one weekend!

I'm off to make more blocks using a couple bably pictures as a gift for the new parents in our family. Take Care!

From Thrown Away Gift Box, To Keepsake

Greetings!

I've been away from this blog way too long! However I haven't been away from crafting at all.
I'm also lucky enough to be blogging on www.clubscrapcreates.blogspot.com almost every Friday, fun stuff going on there too!
So for now, I wanted to share a "little matte board book in a bracelet gift box project". Here is how I decorated the kraft box lid - simply painted with black acrylic and layered with cardstock, a photo, some ribbon and big brads from Club Scrap.



The big brads were also used as feet on the bottom of the box.

The project started with finding a disguarded bracelet gift box (sorry to say there was no bracelet found inside hehee, but I liked the box and knew I could put it to good use!)

After I decorated the lid, I wrapped the bottom of the box with old dictionary paper.

Then, cut matte board pieces to make this book shown below to fit inside the box. An old cereal box would work for this book too since it just gets covered with old dictionary papers, photos and acrylic paint anyway, that's what I'll use next time.

The book is held together simply by large 10MM jumprings, usually used for jewelry projects.

This is how it opens.

First from the side, and then from the top and so on.

Here it is all open.

Of course both sides of the matte board can be decorated, making the fold out book that much more fun.

And it all folds up nicely to fit back inside the box.

This disguarded box became a fun little keepsake for me know that I added my own touches. We liked the project so much at Club Scrap that we made a kit out of it sometime ago for our Sonoma Collection, much easier putting it together with all the pieces cut and ready to go for sure, it certainly is fun how all these things get started, like by just finding a disguarded little box in the trash.
